Weekly Liturgies
Once a week, students in kindergarten through sixth grade participate in the celebration of the Mass. Weekly liturgies are celebrated on Friday mornings at 8:30 AM.
Students are assigned the role of planning and preparing for each weekly liturgy, which occurs on a rotating basis. Students are afforded the opportunity to serve as lectors, cantors, altar servers, and gift bearers for their class' particular liturgy.
Students also have the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation throughout the year, receive ashes on Ash Wednesday, and participate in Stations of the Cross during Lent.
If school is in session on a holy day of obligation, students will attend Mass on that day also.
Parents, families, and friends are always welcome and encouraged to attend Mass with us on Fridays. Your presence reinforces the importance of gathering as a school community to celebrate Mass. The school Mass is a vital part of our faith formation. Teachers use this shared experience in their religion classes, as well as other teachable moments, throughout the week.
Beginning in the second grade year, students will be eligible to receive the sacraments of reconciliation and first Eucharist. Reception of these sacraments is a parish function but all preparation will be done throughout our school day. Parents will be required to attend several special meetings with our Parish Sacramental Preparation Director prior to the Sacrament.
Our third, fourth, and fifth, and sixth grade students are offered the opportunity to become Altar Servers. It is quite an honor to serve at the Table of the Lord! Once training is completed, the students are put on a rotation to serve during our Friday School Masses and put on the weekend Mass schedule.
Service is an integral part of an ICS education. Service projects are planned throughout the school year and are oftentimes initiated by the students themselves. Immaculate Conception school teaches and reinforces the importance of having a servant’s heart.
